The accompanying illus-tration shows three of these guards fastened togetherand bolted to the base of the shaper. These make verysubstantial guards, and they are stronger and more sat-isfactory than wooden strips or wire screening whichare used in many shops. Since the railway had the oldguards the expense of using them in the protection ofapparatus in the shop was small.
