I wish tohave the tonsils cut out, but friends advise me not to, for the reason thatthe lungs will be exposed to dust and dirt. Will you please advise? Reply.—If the tonsils are in good condition they protect the remainderof the body. If they are much diseased they do not. Therefore, if yourtonsils are much disordered have them out. Keeping Tonsils Clean.—67. H. writes:. Fig. 10.—Peritonsillar Abscess. I notice you suggest puttingthe nose, teeth, and tonsils inorder and keeping them cleanas a preventive against rheu-matism. How would you dothis? Reply.—Some people cancleanse their tonsils by mas-saging with the finger or withsome blunt instrument—forinstance, the end of a spoonhandle. This should not bedone oftener than once a week,and usually it will not be nec-essary to do so often. Othersmust have it done for them. Effect of Infected Tonsils. —Reader writes: Will you please tell me what evil effects are apt to comefrom infected tonsils? Could they cause a bad breath? Reply.—Mouth breathing, enlarged neck glands, pallor, frequent sorethroat, deafness, sometimes tuberculosis. As to bad breath, yes. Tonsillar Crypts.—G. E. R. writes: Are the white, cheesy particleswhich form in the crypts of tonsils infectious? And should tonsils havingthese crypts be removed to prevent poisons going through the system? Rep
