Salivary gland tumour. Light micrograph of a section through the parotid gland (the salivary gland beneath the ear) showing an adenolymphoma. An adenolymphoma is a benign (non-cancerous) tumour comprised of glandular acini (white areas) embedded in lymphoid tissue (dark purple). At the centre of the lymphoid tissue is a lymphoid follicle (light purple). This condition is most common in smokers over 60 years of age. The tumours are removed surgically if they become large enough to cause an obstruction.
