A good, progressive florist with push and business insight could change all that and make the other florists sit up and take notice. This Town a Sleepy Hollow. An aggressive florist hardly cares to locate in that town on account of the low price of flowers, considering the size of the town, which is about 25,000. A couple of the florists sell carnations at 75 cents per dozen, but any quantity of them can be bought for 50 cents per dozen, and then seventeen or eighteen blooms are given as a dozen. That makes the actual price of the carnations about 35 cents per dozen, and they are fine carnations. It seems to be another case of unclean competition. No doubt the florist who advertised bedding plants at Christmas would have been greatly surprised if someone had called him up and told him to set out some flower beds and fill some porch boxes. This florist probably would have to use dynamite to break loose the frozen soil. Ordering bedding plants at that unseasonable time of the year surely could be no worse than advertis- ing them. This florist made no mention of Christmas plants or flowers, and doubtless the public thought he bad none. Christmas is no time to advertise bedding plants, and if anyone does so he is wasting space, and newspaper space is valuable. The idea is to push the right stock at the right time,
