The Mary Rose ride at Dreamland Margate. Kent. England. Circa 1980's

The 85 foot attraction was one of only a handful of rides at Dreamland that actually turned you fully upside down. Having more than a passing resemblance to a pirate ship, the boat shaped ride swung back and forth, not by the traditional way of a set of tyres below the boat, but with a huge, powerful motor at the top of the central arm. As the ride picked up momentum, it turned a full 360 degrees before doing the same in reverse - enough to make those with the sturdiest of stomachs feel a little queasy. The famed attraction even appeared on television, when Dreamland provided the backdrop for part of the Only Fools and Horses Christmas special The Jolly Boys Outing.
