Gabes, Tunisia. 06 June 2024. The beach near the phosphate transformation site of the Groupe Chimique Tunisien in the coastal town of Gabes on Tunisia's east coast. The Gulf of Gabes is very polluted due to its phosphate mining and processing sites and the constant release of various toxic gases, particles, and heavy metals affecting the beach, the sea, all the living creatures, and destroying biodiversity. The pollution has also adversely impacted the health of those living near the phosphate extraction and transformation sites, as well as the livelihood of local fishermen and farmers
