In the course of our ocean beach patrols individuals of the follow- ing species were found dead, presumably as a result of contact with oil: red-throated loon {Gavia stellata), Holboell's grebe {CoUjmhus grise- gena holhollii), western grebe, white-winged scoter {Melanitta fusca dixoni), California murre {TJria aalge californiea) and marbled murre- let {Brachynniiphus marmoratns marmoratus). Only four marbled.
