Avian migration from European climate to the southern hemisphere . Pelicans land to rest and feed ,Central Israel

Great White Pelicans Migrate from winter Europe to Southern Climates and use the Northern end of the Great Rift Valley as a feed and rest station before continuing on to African ares. On the return trip the reverse happens .About One Billion birds migrate from Europe to Africa in each direction . Many flocks stop in the comfortable climates of the Great Rift Valley and return to Europe in the spring . The Great Rift Valley as originally described was thought to extend from Lebanon in the north to Mozambique in the south, and constitutes one of two distinct physiographic provinces of the East African mountains. It included the Jordan Rift Valley, Red Sea Rift and the East African Rift. Today these rifts and faults are seen as distinct, although northernmost part of the Rift, today called the Dead Sea Transform or Rift, forms the Beqaa Valley in Lebanon separating the Lebanon Mountains and Anti-Lebanon Mountains. Further south it is known as the Hula Valley separating the Galilee mountains and the Golan Heights. The River Jordan begins here and flows southward through Lake Hula into the Sea of Galilee in Israel, then continues south through the Jordan Rift Valley into the Dead Sea on the Israeli-Jordanian border. Hula Lake Park, known in Hebrew as Agamon HaHula , is located in the southern part of the Hula Valley. The site has become the second home for thousands of migrating birds in the autumn and lake covers an area of one square kilometer interspersed with islands that serve as protected bird nesting sites. It has become a major stopover for migrating birds flying from Europe to Africa and back, and also a major birdwatching site. The Pelicans are fed in a number of sites away from the fish ponds which are a major industry in the Coastal and Sharon time the pelicans have learned to gravitate naturally to these locations ,where they can be seen in their thousands on any given day.
