READING ABBEY, Reading Abbey, Berkshire. The ruins of the entrance to the east cloister looking south. The Abbey was founded by King Henry I in 1121. It became a royal palace of King Henry VIII after the dissolution of the monasteries in 1537. Photographed in 1890 by Henry Taunt.
