BALLS Bess the Boxer has been given life membership of her local rugby club after saving them thousands of pounds by finding their lost balls. The eight year old brindle has found more than 180 rugby balls in just three years as she enjoys her walks around the hedge that surrounds Havant Rugby Club in Hampshire. Owners Bryan and Sue Perolls were amazed the first time that Bess found one of the £20 balls, thinking she was barking at a cat. But now she finds them all the time and has saved the club over £3000. Mr. Perolls , 55, said ‘’ Bess gets so excited when she finds a ball, she jumps up and down to let us know she has found one in the hedge, she plays with it for a while and then we wash and clean it and take it back to the rugby club’’. Harry Wilkinson, president of Havant Rugby Club said:’’We’re delighted to have Bess as a life member, she has saved us so much money. Our ground is surrounded by 30 foot high hedges and balls are always disappearing so having such a great ball dog has saved the club thousands of pounds. Ends. Pic and story Mike Walker, 2010
