Oak Eggar ( Lasiocampa quercus ) caterpillar.


The Oak Eggar is named after the shape of its cocoon which is acorn like. It does not feed on Oak leaves. Its foodstuffs include bramble, ivy, sallows, heather, blackthorn and bilberry. The adult male moths fly during sunlight hours whereas the female is nocturnal.
