Halle aux Vins


The view taken in 1828, shows the Halle aux Vins which is connecte to the Quai St Bernard. Napoleon ordered its construction on the site of the Abbey St Victor. It was built in 1811 by the architect M Gaucher. The lanes between the buildings are named after some of the great wines of France, Rue de la Côte d’Or, Rue de Champagne, Rue de Bourgogne etc. The image was drawn by T Nash under the direction of A Pugin and engraved by M S Barrenger
