Cutting the Grass in Operational Field at DFW International
WIth an area larger than New York's Manhattan Island, DFW International Airport is a city within itself self. People see the ram agents and baggage handlers and all the glamor, but seldom see the large gang crews that move planes on the ground or fuel the jets or yes, clean the bathrooms and etc. Outdoors, there is miles and miles of grass to be managed, cut, and planned to keep birds off the runways and out of the flight path of the jets. A five man gang crew was cutting grass at the north end of the numbered 18 runways. That's the run ways for the heavy jets and cargo carriers, but also passengers that come in on 787s from the west. and don't have to worry about weight restrictions to cross the bridges to the other side of the airport. There are 7 active runways with room for one more to be added later. These guys mowed acre after acre after acre completing this section in just under an hour.
