First car to use Michelin tyres. 19th-century artwork of the first car using Michelin tyres. The Michelin brothers, Edouard and Andre, had a rubber factory in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Starting with bicycles, they founded their tyre company in 1888 and patented their removable design in 1891. Four years later they did the same with cars. This 'Eclair' car covered 1200 kilometres on Michelin tyres in the Paris-Bordeaux-Paris race of 1895. Michelin is one of the world's largest tyre manufacturers. Artwork from the first volume (1897) of 'La Revue Scientifique et Industrielle' by French chemist and inventor Jules-Louis Breton (1872-1940).
