A space 9 feet wide and 40 feet long is providedbetween the switchboard and the west wall of the buildingfor the oi1 switches, busbars and cable connections. Thecables are carried overhead in order that there may be freepassage around the board. The floor at the rear of theswitchboard is three feet lower than the floor of the balanceof the engine room. The lighting circuitsthroughout the building are laid in lead covered conduits. A gravity oiling system has been installed in the engineroom. This consists of a 100-gallon tank, which is near theroof, and a Turner oil purifier in the basement. Oil fromthe tank is fed by gravity, first to all parts of the enginesrequiring a lubricant, then to the purifier, and finally returnedto the tank. The boiler room is equipped with five Stirling boilers,three of which have a rated capacity of 410 horsepower andtwo of 300 horsepower. These are arranged in three banksand are worked under a steam pressure of 150 pounds. Be-tween the first and second banks of boilers are located twoBlake duplex feedwater pumps, each 10 and 6 by 10 inches,and a Hoppes exhaust heater. The feedwater is obtained from the Des Moines river ata point about 100 yards from the boiler room. T
