The synchronizingdevice remains to be explained, however. In order notto complicate Fig. 1, it has not been included in thatdiagram. The key, already mentioned, marked Syn-chro., is in reality merely a reversing key, and it is usedin connection with a polarized relay in each of the twoinstruments. The coil of this relay is connected inseries with the coil of the line current relay alreadymentioned, and when the current is flowing in its nor-mal direction the polarized relay is unaffected. When,however, the current is reversed, the tongue of the re-lay is attracted. The contacts of the relay are so con-nected to the local circuit and to contact rings on thecontact wheel that when the tongue of the relay is over,the local circuit is disconnected as soon as the wheelreaches a certain zero
