Herbaceous plants grow, * and their growth dies at the close of the season, or the plant becomes ungainly, and some of its branches have to be removed. All growth of a Palm, on the contrary, is stable; it is part of a symmetrical structure, and will endure so long as the plant itself survives. The foliage is firm, closely woven of hard fibers, and is uninjured by any but the most uncalled-for neglect and abuse. The beauty of the plants is corresponding.
