Warren Gamaliel Harding (1865-1923), 29th US president. This photograph was taken on 19th December 1922 by the photographer Charles Francis Jenkins (1867-1934). In 1923 Jenkins managed to transmit his images of Harding by radio 130 miles from Washington to Philadelphia. Charles Jenkins was a pioneer of early cinema and the inventor and promoter of the mechanical scanning television. Jenkins provided the first public television demonstration in the US on 13th June 1925. This early work in mechanical television helped lay the foundation for later all-electronic television.
