The double-cone chuck (the same as has always beenused in the No. 7 Handpiece with the greatest satisfac-tion) holds securely any straight-shank bit of standardsize. The chuck is operated by a nut at the back end,but by a thrust movement, which is a decided advanceover the old pull. The spindle has taper bearings at both ends—in thenose-piece and in the collet. Two features of the wrist-joint will commend themselves to thediscriminating dentist: The first of these is a modification whereby the open of the jointis greatly increased, affording a wider range of movement. (Fig. i.) The second, known as the Extension-Arm Stop-Attachment, bylimiting the swiveling of the wrist-joint and of the Handpiece on thewrist-joint (Fig. 2), permits all the freedom of movement requiredwhile absolutely preventing winding of the belt around the fore-arm. The general construction facilitates cleaning and making repairswhen needed. Take it all in all, we know of no dental appliancemore likely to give entire satisfaction than the No. 3 Doriot Handpiece.
