Mr. Bee-son, in connection with Mr. L. S. Hirsh,leased the Grand Opera house, Uniontown,for the years 1896 and 1897, and since thelatter year has been its sole lessee. It hasbeen largely through his personal effortsand enterprise that Uniontown has been fur-nished with the very superior attractionswhich have visited the vicinity during thepast four years, and which have gained thepopular support, thereby reestablishing theopera house upon a paying basis, and inci-dentally advertising Uniontown as a pro-gressive place. Messrs. Harry Beeson, J. and L. S. Hirsh on May 12, 1897, in-stituted and organized Uniontown Lodge ofElks with forty-five charter members, whichlodge now has a membership of one hundredand twenty-five, with Mr. Beeson as Exalted. Mr. Beeson was one of thefounders and is manager of the UniontownAthletic club, ami at the present time is amember of the city council from the Fourthward. William Armistkad McHugh, proprie-tor of that historic Uniontown hostelry, theMcClelland house, was born in Hollidays-burg, Blair county, Pennsylvania, December 7, 1850. He is a son of the late Bernardand Ann Elizabeth (Sweeny) McHugh. theformer a native of Bedford county, the latterof Blair county. Pa., and both of Irish de-scent, their parents having come from Ire-land and located in Pennsylvania
