Aerial View of Surging Glacial Patterns, Jokulsarlon, Breidamerkurjokull, Vatnajokull Ice Cap, Iceland

Icebergs floating in Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon, Breidamerkurjokull, Vatnajokull Ice Cap, Iceland. Due to the recent glacial surge many more icebergs are filling up the lagoon. A surge-type glacier experiences a dramatic increase in flow rate, which can be 10-100 times greater than normal flow rates. Glacier surges turn the glacier surface into a maze of ice towers and crevasses.
