His mother was also born in the same county, near the town ofWoodsfield. Her maiden name was Esther Hale. She was of Englishdescent, and her people had for several generations, been citizens and resi-dents of this ci iuntry. I lis father, George T. Harrison was horn in Virginia, and his peoplefor several generations were citizens of Virginia. They were well to do,and people of property. George T. Harrison, his father, when a boy lefthis home, went to sea. and for some years led a seafaring life and saw muchof the world.
