Remaining section of pelvis, showing the antero-posterior, transverseand oblique measurements of cavity. We have, then, the plane of the cavity, one most generallyomitted, and perhaps the most important of the three. Theantero-posterior measurement of this plane passes immediatelyhelow the symphysis pubis parallel to that of the brim, directlybackwards to a point above the middle of the sacrum ; it is about4,^ inches. The transverse passes from the centre of one plane ofthe ischium to the other, and is 4| inches; and the oblique liesbetween the centres of those muscular masses which fill up theobturator and ischiatic spaces. Their measurement is uncertain ;but it is more than 5 inches.
