Its romantic surroundings different, and also perhapsthe occasion, made it an entrancing sight; one well worth going along distance to behold. Those forming the procession saw onthe height above the old stronghold towering against the sky,where it had withstod the siege of centuries and the cannon ofimplacable enemies,—a mute emblem of the fortitude of thosewho had been its defense.
