1840's portrait of Benjamin Nottingham Webster ( 1797 -1882), English actor-manager and dramatist. Webster eventually leased the Haymarket theatre from 1837 to 1853. then built the new Adelphi Theatre (1859); later the Olympic Theatre, Princess's Theatre, London and St James's Theatres came under his control He was the patron of many playwrights and actors of his time and became a noted character actor.
