03/05/15 Production Assistant, Sanda Ubele (20) picks stocks by hand. With yet another Bank Holiday Monday set to be wet and dreary you can at least take-heart that these blooms, grown for Marks and Spencer, are thriving in the cold conditions. Ian Collison, who grows and supplies bunches of stocks for the supermarket from the familyÕs farm in Norfolk said: ÒThe cool weather over the last two weeks means theyÕre growing nice and slowly. This leads to a better, heavier and stronger flowers that will last longer in the vase.Ó These stocks are being used in the M&S ÔBlooms of the British IslesÕ display at The Chelsea Flower Show, which will be opened by Joanna Lumley C the M&S sustainability ambassador. The exhibit will champion British flowers and growers, showcasing heritage varieties from Peonies and Stocks, which have been around for centuries, to new varieties, such as Orchids, which are now grown in Britain using modern techniques. M&S Flower Expert, Simon Richards said: ÒWe are very excited to feature at Chelsea again this year, especially with a theme that is so important to M&S. As a nation we grow some of the worldÕs most beautiful flowers and plants. We want to celebrate these iconic blooms and champion the growers behind them.Ó Chelsea Flower Show opens on May 18th and the stocks C to brighten any grey spring day - are already in stores.
