PALMISTRY Engraving of a drawing, made by the cartomancer Le Normand, of the hand of Josephine de Beauharnais. The engraving appeared in her Memoires historiques et secrets de l'Imperatrice Josephine, 1827. There is no real evidence that Le Normand examined the hand of Josephine, from a palmistric point of view (or indeed that she knew much about palmistry). In terms of a palmistic study, the diagram is gibberish, yet it has had a powerful influence on popular histories of palmistry.
