Each strip contains threedozen of these cells, equivalent to the samenumber of caps. The strip is coiled in a mag-azine concealed beneath the lock-plate, andbrought up by the motion of a wheel in the actof cocking, so as to bring a cell du-ectly uponthe top of the nipple. The fall of the hammerexplodes it and at the same time cuts oft thepaper behind, so that it is not seen again tillthe gun is again cooked. Mr. Cleveland, afterlong experience, prefers the smaller sized barrel(f/if inch calibre) to the larger, which is of halfinch calibre, as being better adapted to
