Women’s cotton shirt made in Bangladesh that was purchased from a retail clothing store in the United States. Poor working conditions for low-wage workers in the developing world became a difficult issue for Western apparel companies after a fatal building collapse in Dhaka, Bangladesh at a garment factory on April 24th of 2013. A month after the disaster at the factory inside the Rana Plaza in Dhaka, Bangladesh, left more than 1,000 workers dead, the government has shut down 18 factories until improvements are made. At $20 billion-a-year, the garment industry was Bangladesh’s largest source of job growth and made it one of the world's largest exporters of inexpensive clothing.
