He was brought up as a farmers boy, and in 1898 performed the military serviceexpected of him as a member, for a year, of the Eighteenth Infantry. On getting hishonorable discharge, and thus securing himself as a patriotic citizen in good standingfor the future, he came to America, and in April, 1901, arrived in California. At Anaheim, on February 11. 1904, Mr. Toussau was married to Miss MariePoyet, a native of Los Angeles, of French parentage. Her father. Jean B., was bornin Lyons, France, became a marble cutter, and did superb work on cathedrals inFrance, and in 1871 came out to Los Angeles, where he engaged in ranching in theVerdugo.
