Hawai‘i, the Big Island, North Kahala, Christmas Berries on Pololu Trail
Also along the Pololu Trail were various interesting plants such as this Christmas Berry (as it is called in Hawai`i) but is actually a pepper plant, generally referred to as the Brazilian Pepper plant. The seeds of the berries are ground up as pepper. In Hawai‘i, this is considered an invasive species which threatens the survival of some rare and endangered plants such as the yellow hibiscus, which is designated as the state flower.
