Lent by Sir Frederick Cook, Bart. 122. 81GIORGIONE: 1477(?).1510 Venetian SchoolHOLY FAMILY SMALL full-length figures of St, Joseph and the Virgin, the latterwith the Child on her lap ; through the arched window atthe back on the right a landscape, and an evening sky. Even more Giorgionesque in outward characteristics, as, for instance, inthe drapery and colouring, although by no means so close to Giorgione inquality of magic, is Mrs. Bensons small Holy Family (No. 148, attributedto Giorgione). The type of the Virgin is thoroughly Catenesque—although thelarge sweep of the draperies recalls Giorgione.—B.
