French & Flemish tapestries of similar subject are based on the "Italian Comedy" or "Fêtes Venitiennes". However, Bradshaw produced a totally new suite of scenes based on pictures by Watteau. This scene is partly based on Watteau's "Départ pour Cythère" at Potsdam & "Fête Venitienne" in Edinburgh. It is also partly based on Pater's "Fête in a Park" in the Wallace Collection.
