James Webb Space Telescope’s first images – Highest resolution version of a NASA composite image showing the Cosmic Cliffs region of the Carina Nebula. Captured simultaneously in Near-Infrared & Mid-Infrared, this image reveals previously invisible areas of star birth. The region is actually the edge of a giant, gaseous cavity about 7600 light-years away. The area has been eroded from the nebula by the intense UV radiation & stellar winds from massive, hot, young stars located above the area shown. 12 July 2022 Credit: NASA, ESA, CSA, and STScI / Alamy Live News via Digitaleye
