Lobster larva. Larval stage of a Phyllosoma lobster, floating in the sea. Larval marine lobsters typically spend their juvenile lives afloat in the world's ocean currents, forming part of the zooplankton. The larva passes through several developmental stages before attaining the adult form. Larval lobsters are thin and flat with eyes at the ends of eye stalks. Their bodies are mostly transparent. Zooplankton is an important marine food resource. Photographed in the Mediterranean Sea.
