GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS.—As regards theinfluence of diseased conditions upon the risks ofoperation and the chances of recovery only generalstatements can be made. Practically all the systems in the body have to be considered in connection withthe performance of any operation. Excretory and Sccrciorv Systems. — The excretorysystem has probably the greatest influence on theultimate recovery of the patient. Severe operationsmay be successfully performed, but the patient maysuccumb sooner or later as the direct result of theinterference in cases where excretory or secretoryorgans are diseased. Of course, in advanced casesof renal or hepatic disorders the immediate risk isgreat, and
