Preparations for the return of 10 acres of land on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma to the local Ginowan community began Dec. 28. The project is part of the Special Action Committee on Okinawa signed in 1995. The purpose of the agreement is to reduce the impact of the military presence on the people of Okinawa by strategically realigning, consolidating, and reducing facilities and adjusting operational procedures.
