Rainwater from the high forests on the western crater rim feeds 500m below into the Ngoitokitok spring. The spring is an important source of fresh water and feeds into extensive swamp which provides good grazing all year around. Ngoitokitok spring is also a popular site to stop for a picnic when visiting the crater floor.
