In the Cantal, hikers on top of the "Puy Griou" (5,556 ft above the sea level). Region nature reserve of the Auvergne volcanoes - France. The remains of an old volcano vent, it is made up of phonolite, a not much abundant compact extrusive rock, which makes a ringing sound when struck. Randonneurs au pied du Puy Griou (1694 mètres d'altitude) (Parc naturel régional des volcans d'Auvergne, Cantal 15 - Auvergne - France). Le Puy Griou est le vestige de la cheminée centrale d'un ancien volcan qui est constitué de phonolite, une roche magmatique volcanique peu abondante, qui "tinte comme du cristal" si l'on frappe deux morceaux l'un contre l'autre.
