Driving cattle to fresh pasture on Tealham and Tadham Moor, on the Somerset Levels and Moors south of Wedmore. DAVID MANSELL
Driving cattle to fresh pasture on Tealham and Tadham Moor, a Site of Special Scientific Interest on the Somerset Levels and Moors south of Wedmore. The cattle graze the low-lying wetlands in summer and are moved to higher land in winter. Farmers on the Somerset Levels normally have plenty of fresh grass growing in their fields as it is generally wetter than most regions of the UK. But by the middle of August even these farmers were getting desperate, experiencing like the rest of the country the driest first six months for a hundred years, the lack of rain meant they were also having to move their cattle from field to field to find enough fresh grass for their animals to eat.
