African elephant, Loxodonta africana. Some of Tanzania's biggest elephant bulls roam the bottom of the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. Their massive bodies and long tusks make them very impressive animals. But this old bull showed an even more impressive behaviour. It balanced on two legs, stretching its body and trunk to reach branches high on a yellow barked Acacia (Acacia xanthophloea). The elephant reached to a height which is probably out of reach for the tallest giraffe. This picture is 1 out of a series of 3.
