Deflecting an asteroid threatening Earth, computer illustration. The Madmen project plans to send a swarm of robots to the asteroid. Each robot would drill into the surface and catapult its debris into space, creating a tiny push in the opposite direction. After a few months, the total thrust would be enough to deflect the asteroid from it's Earth-threatening trajectory.
