He was born in Strasburg,Va., November 13, 1790, and died at the same place December 15,1876. He was twice married, first to Mary Smith, and secondlyto Elizabeth Hurn. He was educated at Dickinson College, Car-lisle, Pa., and was for many years a Justice of the Peace; of Shenandoah county, and a member of the VirginiaLegislature He inherited a large landed estate, and was educated for the bar,but preferred agriculture. When he died he owned but a thousandacres, and that was under execution, not
