He labored as a farmer in Yatescounty about fifteen years, then locatingin Ogle Co., 111., where he purchasedproperty in Polo. He worked as a masonsassistant a short time, bought a team,rented land and employed himselfin farming. In 1868 he exchangedhis property in Polo for land on section10, in Falls township, Cerro Gordo Co.,Iowa, and in 1870 moved here with hisfamily.
