The space between the foundations is used for pumpsand for the exhaust pipes from the refrigerating machinesand generators. The floor of the engine room is builtaround the machinery on a level with the outside grade. The ammonia condensers are placed on the roof andare enclosed with louvres on three sides in order to permitthe free circulation of air through the condenser house. A water reservoir is built adjoining the engine room,where the overflow water from the condensers is stored forfire purposes, or pumped from here to the plant and usedfor the washing up of floors. The stock yard is built with covered pens and is pavedwith brick. An inclined runway, over which the live stockis driven to the killing floor, is built on the east side of theslaughter house.
