Between the Sacrum and Ischium.—The anterior or lesser sacro-ischiatic ligament is thin, and triangular in form ; it is attached byits apex to the spine of the ischium; and by its broad extremity tothe side of the sacrum and coccyx, interlacing its fibres with thegreater sacro-ischiatic ligament. The anterior sacro-ischiatic ligament is in relation, in front, withk2 132 LIGAMENTS OF THE PELVIS. the eoccygeus muscle, and behind with the posterior ligament, withwhich its fibres are intermingled. By its upper border it forms a partof the lower boundary of the great sacro-ischiatic foramen, and by thelower a part of the lesser sacro-ischiatic The posterior or greater sacro-ischiatic ligament, considerably larger, thicker, and more posterior than the preceding, is narrower in themiddle than at each extremity. It is attached, by its smaller end, tothe inner margin of the tuberosity and ramus of the ischium, where itforms a falciform process, which protects the internal pudic arteiy, andis continuous with the obturator fascia. By its larger extremity it isinserted into the side of the coccyx, sacrum, and posterior inferiorspine of the ilium. The posterior sacro-ischiatic ligament is in relation,m front, with theanterior ligament, and behind with the gluteus maximus, to some ofthe fibres of which it gives origin. By its superior border it formspart of the boundary of the lesser ischiatic foramen, and by its lower * The ligaments of the pelvis and hip-joint. 1.
