The mission of the 983rd Engineer Battalion is to increase the combat effectiveness of division, corps and theater forces by accomplishing general engineering tasks and limited mobility, counter-mobility and rear-area security operations when required. Uncasing of the battalion’s unique flags, referred to as the colors, is a traditional ceremony conducted by the Army upon returning home from an overseas deployment. The colors are also cased during official Call to Duty ceremonies prior to an overseas deployment. Air National Guard
