A South German strongbox, Nuremberg or Passau, circa 1600. Rectangular iron trunk mounted with bands, hinged lid and spring-closing secured lock plate, two bolts for padlocks and moveable handles on the sides. The chaplet lock with intricate ward and original hollow mandrel key, eight tumblers, decorated with engraved mountings and iron rosettes. Inside is an iron compartment with folding lid.
