The species on which this genus was based has a short bill which is hooked at the tip, and the width at the base exceeds the length of the exposed culmen. The wing is rounded, the primaries are obliquely cut at the tips, which are most conspicuous in the males. The tail is slightly rounded and about three-fifths the length of the wing.
