This large and attractive hummingbird is called white-necked jacobin (Florisuga mellivora), which is is a widespread inhabitant of forest, usually being seen at a high perch or just above the canopy. The colors of this male bird are spectacular with this white belly and tail and the dark blue hood. Females are highly variable with more green and better camouflaged. These birds usually visit flowers of tall trees and epiphytes for nectar, and also hawk for insects.
